EDWARDSVILLE — The Edwardsville Public Library is sponsoring its; Date With Dewey, fund-raiser on Saturday, Oct. 13, but a new twist will be added this year.
The library will auction off 60 to 80 children’s chairs that have been decorated by local artists.
They’re really cool old, wood chairs, and we’ve asked local artists to adopt them, said Librarian/Director Deanne Holshouser.
The event will be from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the library. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served, and a group will be playing jazz.
The money raised will go to pay for library programs and new materials.
Holshouser said this will be the second year for the Date With Dewey event. Last year’s fund-raiser brought in several thousand dollars, but much of the revenue was eaten up by having to replace books that had been wetted down in an accident.
Maintenance men accidentally touched off the sprinkler system and doused the interior of the building. The library was closed for a few days, and several books had to be replaced.
Our plan is to have no disasters this year, Holshouser said.
The chairs will be on display at the library and at the Maison de Chanticleer, 1055 Century Drive; First Cloverleaf Bank, 6814 Goshen Road; The Bank of Edwardsville, 330 W. Vandalia St.; Mojo’s Music, 142 N. Main St.; The Edge Bank, 10 Terra Verde (Main Street Extension); City Hall, 118 Hillsboro Ave.; Crushed Grapes, 1500 Troy Road; Hawthorne Animal Hospital, 5 Cougar Drive; and GCS Federal Credit Union, 6707 Goshen Road.
